Police forcefully entered her residence on Carretera Sur, Managua, on the 8th of June, 2021. Police officers broke into her home, slapped her, handcuffed her and later pushed her in a grotesque manner to make her enter a patrol car. There were more than 35 officers sent by the regime to search her house, and in this way many belongings and electronic devices were taken.
Currently Violeta Granera has been imprisoned for almost 16 months in the Directorate of Judicial Assistance (DAJ) or better known as the torture cells in Nuevo Chipote.
It is in these facilities where she has lost several teeth, has been subjected to cruel and inhuman treatment and is at great risk due to being an elderly woman and suffering from chronic diseases, which has already caused consequences in the deterioration of her health.

INMEDIATA
Violeta is a brave woman, she has fought for freedom, democracy and justice. The dictatorship of Daniel Ortega has her in a torture prison in very inhumane conditions.
Thank you very much and God bless you. Coming from the EU means a lot to us since you have been the main source of cooperation for democracy, human rights and development to Nicaragua, and the Agreement of Association is a clear example of that. We can not allow crimes against humanity to continue in the world, much less in a region that has an agreement with the EU.
