Deprived of liberty since May 20, 2018 when he was on his way to work at the General Aviation Command in La Carlota. He was apprehended by the DGCIM through physical mistreatment and subjected to different types of torture.

Presented to the courts on May 24, 2018, the first preliminary hearing was held in May 2018 charged with the crimes of Incitement to Rebellion and against military decorum, due to irregularities in the accusation a new preliminary hearing is held in July 2021 and Since then, he has been awaiting a trial date.

The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention issued a consideration recognizing de Gouveia’s detention as an arbitrary one. Since the moment of his detention, he has not been transferred to any health center for medical care or treatment that he has required. He is currently in the Ramo Verde National Military Prison Center in Los Teques, Venezuela.

He was detained because of the excuse of a conspiracy in the so-called Operation Armageddon, although none of the officers accused ever rebelled, and it was never demonstrated that the preparation of an attempted coup d’état had occurred.
