Juan Lorenzo Holmann Chamorro is general manager of LA PRENSA, the oldest newspaper in Nicaragua. He found himself leading the newspaper in one of its most difficult moments facing constant repression by the Nicaraguan regime against the media.

He was accused of the alleged crime of money laundering and subjected to a trial full of irregularities without access to a correct defense. He was sentenced to 9 years in prison and a hefty monetary fine.

In 2021, he underwent a delicate heart surgery due to congenital problems, requiring close follow-up after the operation. He has a lump that causes pain when walking, also suffers from hypertension and has a black spot on his left eye. None of these affectations have been treated by the Nicaraguan authorities.
