Nicaraguan police controlled by Daniel Ortega arbitrarily detained Rodrigo Navarrete, uncle of the political prisoner Jaime Navarrete. Rodrigo had been demanding his nephew’s release until last November 26, at dawn, when the Police destroyed the doors of his house and took him out with violence.
Navarrete’s relatives denounced that members of the police raided the house in the Loma Linda neighborhood of Managua to arrest him. The search lasted two hours, looking for supposed “weapons” which they obviously did not find, taking cell phones. Until now, the reasons for the arbitrary arrest and detention in the District of Managua are unknown.
After four months of imprisonment Rodrigo was found not guilty by the Eighth Local Criminal Court of Managua. He regained his freedom on March 30, 2023.
